Dealing with people from all over the world (different cultures, different expectations) can be made manageable by setting some rules.
In fact, having ground rules in place ALWAYS pays in the longer run.
Also, let’s face it – not all your guests will be ‘nice’.
So why not establish some boundaries right from the start?
Tell your guests how you want your home to be treated – politely of course!
Here’s how to go about it:
- Put up a friendly welcome note for your guests.
- In the note, mention general house rules like treating the house with respect and care, maintaining cleanliness, keeping noise down during nighttime hours.
- In case of accidental damage, the issue will be analyzed and repair/deduction cost will be determined.
- You can include a simple map of the home/room for easy location of things and mention sensitive equipment like alarm system, electric panel, private cupboard etc.
- Give guidelines about free food, kitchen/cleaning supplies and not misusing them.
- Guide guests about child safety and supervision.
- If you’re not open to the idea of visitors coming over and partying at your property, clearly mention it to your guests.
- Other rules worth mentioning are parking areas, garbage disposal, smoking, pets and use of pools/hot tubs.
